We live in the grounds of a grade 1 listed building curtilage, the owner is erecting a 5 foot close board fence about 3-4 feet from our boundary. Is this allowed or is it a local planning issue?
I have no idea where the correspondent "Huge" is coming from. With answers like that he could get people into a lot of trouble. Listed Building Consent is required for this development and the owner risks being served with a Listed Building Enforcement Notice if he does not obtain it. Report the matter to the enforcement section of your local planning department. They will deal with your complaint in confidence, investigate the case and take the appropriate action.

That is perfectly legal anyone can erect a fence around their property as long as its not over 6ft high. The fact that their building is Grade 1 listed has no bearing on the fence issue. The only case I can think of where it is no allowed is at the front of some developments where there are covenants in the deeds that stipulate that the front of properties must be open
