What would be the process for replacing the whole roof on a grade II listed building?

Is it as simple as making drawings and an application and getting on with the work, or what?
Listed Building consent is the first consent to be granted, so you would have to see the Conservation Officer at your local council to see if any relevant buildings consent will be granted.
Then you have to apply for your planning application which is an essential requirement under the Town and Country Planning Acts.
You will have to submit the plans on all the building work and you will have to conform to all the relevant Building Regulations regarding the work you are having carried out. An application of the Building Regulations means that the appropriate local authority has to be notified and the building work will have to comply with those stated regulations. The main purpose of the regulations is to ensure the health and safety of people in or around the building. You may chose either the local authority or an approved inspector to supervise the work .You can not commence with any work without the relevant permissions from the local authorities, otherwise they will have the power to seize all buildings work, and you will be liable to a hefty fine, and then your application will be void for at least another year. You will have to submit the full plans to the authorities to ensure that the work will be carried out by a professional competent builder, and , that they are satisfied with the alterations being made.
Go to your local council and ask to see the Planning Officer, and they will give you all the advice and details that you will need to carry out the work.
